Silverstone Auctions is thrilled to introduce “The Dawn of Motoring Auction,” a brand new event featuring exclusively over 150 cars from 1886 to 1939. The auction is scheduled to take place at the charming Lygon Arms Hotel on August 4th, 2023, in the United Kingdom.
Over 100 highly sought-after vintage and antique cars, all built before 1940, will be offered at the auction.
The Silverstone auction will coincide with the Vintage Sports-Car Club’s Prescott Hillclimb weekend. This event is the largest gathering of vintage and post-vintage Thoroughbred cars in the world. Lots can be viewed on August 4th, 2023, from 9 am until the auction commences at 3 p.m.
Above left is a 1925 Rolls-Royce Phantom I and right is a 1905 Renault XB 14/20hp Tourer — The Rolls-Royce Phantom I was Prepared in Paris by renowned Rolls-Royce racer, James Radley, for the late King Mohammed V of Morocco. The 1905 Renault XB is a fabulous example of a pristine Renault and its powerful four-cylinder side-valve engined XB Tourer.
The auction will showcase featured automobiles from famous European luxury car brands like Talbot, Chalmers, Vauxhall, Wolseley, Renault, Crossley, Morris, Saxon, Lanchester, Sunbeam Bentley, Lea-Francis, and Buick-McLaughlin, among others.
Pre-racing brands like Alvis, Riley, Wolseley, Fafnir, Hall-Scott, Vauxhall OD, S.S. Cars Ltd. will be among the highlighted sports car marques.
A few American brands, including Ford, Dodge Brothers, and Buick-McLaughlin, will also be available for bidding at the UK auction.
The 1886 Benz Patent Motorwagen is widely considered to be the world’s first automobile powered by an internal combustion engine. It was designed and built by Karl Benz, a German engineer, and inventor, who is often credited with the invention of the modern automobile.
There will also be a rare 1886 Benz Patent Motorwagen Replica with a selling price of £35,000 – £45,000. Many car collectors see the 1886 Benz Patent Motorwagen as a must-have for any car collection. The origin of motorized transportation, the car is for any pre-war or veteran car collector. Exceptionally well-preserved and precisely exact copy by John Bentley Engineering.
