About The Steve Forristall Collection
For more than four decades, Steve Forristall was a well-known racer and Houston-based car dealer specializing in Italian exotics. In the 1980s through the late 1990s, his showroom was a mecca for all manner of postwar Italian autos, especially Alfas, Maseratis and historically significant Ferraris. Forristall raced in Vintage both in the U.S. and in Europe, including in the very first “re-running” of the Pan-American Road Race.
In Forristall’s last Vintage race before retiring from the track once again, he won five out of six flat-out race stages in the big-bore class in the Carrera Road Race. He raced a 1965 Alfa TZ 2 and was on the ramp at Pebble Beach with the car two years in a row.
Forristall’s love of racing extended beyond just the cars, and he accumulated countless memorabilia items related to the sport throughout his years of life. The entire Road Art assemblage is now slated to cross the Mecum auction block this April at the Mecum Houston Auction taking place April 8-10 at the NRG Center in Houston Texas.
The collection features many signed pieces, including original Buddy Bars and literature items signed by Carroll Shelby, as well as more than 150 desirable vintage racing posters, banners, original racing wheels, trophies and awards, a Shelby Racing jacket, Ferrari salesman samples, Alfa-brand items and the highlight of the group, an original “Mallard-Offenhsauser” nose cone from the 1969 Jim Hurtubise Indy 500 “Mallard” Racecar, and much more.
