SUMMARY:Bonhams Comes to Historic Newport\, Rhode Island\, For A "Two Generations Collection" Auction With 35 Historic Vehicles On April 29\, 2023
DESCRIPTION:A new Bonhams stand-alone sale\, The Two Generations Collection\, will take place on April 29\, 2023\, in Newport\, Rhode Island\, as a prelude to the Audrain Veteran Car Tour. The auction will offer 35 predominantly Brass Era cars and an extensive range of collectibles\, amassed over 70 years by an enthusiastic father and his son. \nAbove is a 1911 Pierce-Arrow Model 36 UU Touring Asking Price: US $200\,000 – $300\,000. Started in 1901\, The Pierce-Arrow Automobile Company was best known for expensive luxury cars and was owned by such famous people as President William Howard Taft. \nLeading the sale is a remarkably original 1906 Thomas 50hp Flyer Touring Car (estimate $400\,000-500\,000)\, a precursor\, of equal hp and specification\, to the renowned car which claimed victory in the grueling 22\,000-mile New York to Paris endurance race in 1908. \nAccording To Bonhams Pres Release: The car offered was acquired from one of the famed William Fisk Harrah collection auctions in the mid-1980s. Harrah\, a noted Thomas enthusiast\, had purchased the Flyer – the only 1906 example he owned – in 1956 from Oklahoma. Apparently never restored\, the car retains its original coachwork and much of its original upholstery. \nThe collection offers examples of luxury marques from the dawn of motoring including Pierce-Arrow\, Pope-Hartford\, and Cadillac. Another brand targeting the upper echelons of society was Palmer-Singer\, represented by a rare 1911 4-50 Seven Passenger Touring (estimate $400\,000-500\,000). \nBonham’s will be offing the above cars including a 1907 Pope Hartford Model L Raceabout Asking Price: $85\,000 – $115\,000\, a 1904 Cadillac Model B Rear Entrance Asking Price: $80\,000 – $100\,000\, and a c.1903 Thomas Model 18 Single Cylinder 8HP Rear Entrance Tonneau Asking Price: $70\,000 – $90\,000 \nOldsmobile is represented by a well-proven 1904 Curved Dash (estimate $45\,000-55\,000)\, while a 1906 and a 1907 model of REO\, the successor company of founder Ransom Eli Olds\, tell the next chapter of the marque’s story. \nWith their owners\, many of the cars have participated in Horseless Carriage Club of America and Antique Automobile Club of America (AACA) tours and have been shown as prestigious events such as Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance\, Elegance at Hershey and Klingberg Concours. \nAlso offered in the sale are circa 450 high-quality lots of automobilia\, carefully curated and collected over two generations\, from pedal cars and spares to motoring art\, including 50 original Veteran and Vintage advertising posters. Highlights include a Grand Prix de L’A.C.F. Dieppe poster after Bric\, 1908\, estimate $5\,000-7\,000 and a rare clockwork ‘Gordon-Bennett’ racing car by Bing\, Germany\, circa 1904\, estimate $10\,000-12\,000. \nRupert Banner\, Global Head of Specialists\, Bonhams Collector Cars\, said: “This collection\, lovingly built up over a number of decades\, reflects the passion of two truly dedicated and fastidious collectors. We are proud to offer it in partnership with an event that complements the context of the early motoring themes\, the Audrain Veteran Car Tour weekend.” \nAbove is a 1911 Pierce-Arrow Model 36 UU Touring Asking Price: US $200\,000 – $300\,000. Started in 1901\, The Pierce-Arrow Automobile Company was best known for expensive luxury cars and was owned by such famous people as President William Howard Taft. \nDonald Osborne\, Audrain Group CEO\, added: “This exciting sale is a great extension of the relationship between Audrain and Bonhams\, a natural given the passion both share for the magnificent machines and remarkable spirit of the dawn of the automobile” shared. “I can’t wait to see how this is received.” \nThe following 34 vintage cars are available for purchase: \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFormerly in the Harrah Collection1906 Thomas Flyer Model 31 Touring\n\n\n\n\n\n\n1911 Palmer-Singer 4-50 Seven Passenger\n\n\n\n\n\n\n1906 Pope-Toledo Model 12 Seven Passenger\n\n\n\n\n\n\n1911 Pierce-Arrow Model 36 UU Touring – Asking Price: $200\,000 – $300\,000\n\n\n\n\n\n\n1947 Ford Model 79A Sportsman Convertible – Asking Price: $125\,000 – $175\,000\n\n\n\n\n\n\n1906 Darracq Model 40/60 Runabout – Asking Price: $100\,000 – $150\,000\n\n\n\n\n\n\n1907 Pope Hartford Model L Raceabout – Asking Price: $85\,000 – $115\,000\n\n\n\n\n\n\n1904 Cadillac Model B Rear Entrance – Asking Price: $80\,000 – $100\,000\n\n\n\n\n\n\n1903 Thomas Model 18 Single Cylinder 8HP Rear Entrance Tonneau – Asking Price: $70\,000 – $90\,000\n\n\n\n\n\n\n1930 Buick Model 60 Roadster – Asking Price: $60\,000 – $80\,000\n\n\n\n\n\n\n1904 Oldsmobile Model 6C Curved Dash – Asking Price: $45\,000 – $50\,000\n\n\n\n\n\n\n1905 Cadillac Model F Touring Continental – Asking Price: $40\,000 – $50\,000\n\n\n\n\n\n\n1905 Franklin 12HP Runabout – Asking Price: $40\,000 – $50\,000\n\n\n\n\n\n\n1908 Franklin Model G Touring – Asking Price: $40\,000 – $50\,000\n\n\n\n\n\n\n1910 Cadillac Model 30 Touring – Asking Price: $40\,000 – $50\,000\n\n\n\n\n\n\n1935 Ford V8 Roadster$35\,000 – $45\,000\n\n\n\n\n\n\n1905 Maxwell Model H Touring – Asking Price: $30\,000 – $40\,000\n\n\n\n\n\n\n1907 Ford Model R Roadster$30\,000 – $40\,000\n\n\n\n\n\n\n1909 EMF Model 30 Touring – Asking Price: $30\,000 – $40\,000\n\n\n\n\n\n\n1911 Ford Model T Torpedo Roadster – Asking Price: $30\,000 – $40\,000\n\n\n\n\n\n\n1908 Buick Model F Touring – Asking Price: $30\,000 – $40\,000\n\n\n\n\n\n\n1910 Buick Model 2A Pickup Truck – Asking Price: $30\,000 – $40\,000\n\n\n\n\n\n\n1909 Oakland Model 40 Touring$30\,000 – $40\,000\n\n\n\n\n\n\n1909 Buick Model 30 Touring$30\,000 – $40\,000\n\n\n\n\n\n\n1900 Locomobile Steam Runabout – Asking Price: $25\,000 – $35\,000\n\n\n\n\n\n\n1909 EMF Model 30 Touring$25\,000 – $35\,000\n\n\n\n\n\n\n1906 REO Model A 16HP Two Cylinder Touring – Asking Price: $20\,000 – $30\,000\n\n\n\n\n\n\n1907 REO Model A 16/20HP Two Cylinder Touring – Asking Price: $20\,000 – $30\,000\n\n\n\n\n\n\n1910 Courier Model 10-A-1 25HP Roadster – Asking Price: $20\,000 – $30\,000\n\n\n\n\n\n\n1911 Ford Model T Roadster$20\,000 – $30\,000\n\n\n\n\n\n\n1908 Oakland Model 20 Two Cylinder Touring$20\,000 – $30\,000\n\n\n\n\n\n\n1940 Bantam Model 64 Super Roadster – Asking Price: $15\,000 – $25\,000\n\n\n\n\n\n\n1912 Ford Model T Touring – Asking Price: $12\,000 – $18\,000\n\n\n\n\n\n\n1909 Ford Model T Touring – Asking Price: $12\,000 – $18\,000\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe second edition of the Audrain Veteran Car Tour – supported by Bonhams and already known as the American London to Brighton Run – will be staged in Newport\, Rhode Island\, the home of Motorsport in America\, where many wealthy pioneer motorists had homes. \nThe Two Generations Collection is staged under Bonhams’ partnership with the Audrain Concours Foundation which also includes the autumn Audrain Concours Auction\, this year taking place on September 29 as part of Audrain Newport Concours & Motor Week. \nArticle Source: Bonhams: Two Generations’ Passion for Antique Cars at Bonhams in Audrain Press Release

SUMMARY:Watch Mecum Auction Live From The Indiana State Fairgrounds in Indianapolis May 12-20\, 2023 As They Hammer Out Over 3000 Motor City Muscle Cars
DESCRIPTION:Mecum will hold an “American Muscle Car” auction for eight days beginning May 12 and ending May 20 at the Indiana State Fairgrounds & Event Center in Indianapolis\, Indiana\, hammering out over 3\,000 highly collectible cars and road art from 16 separate car collectors. \nAnother rare muscle car classic up for auction is a multi-color 1970 Plymouth Cuda 440 Rapid with a powerful 440/385 HP V-8 and automatic transmission. \n\nThe car is one of the four original Plymouth Cuda cars that traveled on the Rapid Transit System Caravan roadshow back in the 1970s. With a black interior and only 967 original miles\, Mecum estimates the car will sell for between $500\,000 and $750\,000. \nTwo more classic muscle cars coming to the Mecum Indy Auction are a 1970 Plymouth Superbird in original condition\, and a 1969 Chevrolet Corvette L88/ZL1 Greenwood Race Car called the “Stars and Stripes” \n\n  \n\nTwo more muscle cars that stand out are a 1970 Plymouth Superbird and a 1969 Chevrolet Corvette L88/ZL1 Greenwood Race Car. The first muscle car is a hyper-rare 1970 TorRed Superbird in original condition with only 22\,035 miles. Under the hood is a 440/390 HP V-8 powerhouse engine with an automatic transmission (matching serial numbers). Mecum predicts that the Superbird may fetch up to $380\,000 at auction. \n\n \n\nThe second car is a red\, white\, and blue 1969 Chevrolet Corvette L88/ZL1\, which broke numerous records in the 1970s. While being driven by Greenwood and Smothers\, this all-American painted Corvette won the GT Class at the 1972 Watkins Glen Six Hour Race and set a new GT Speed Record at the Mulsanne Straight back in 1973. The 427/750 HP V-8 engine of the Corvette drives a 4-Speed Manual transmission. \nOverall\, a majority of the 3\,000 classic cars to come under the hammer in the Mecum Indy Auction 2023 will be made up of Corvettes\, Chevelle’s\, Mustangs\, Pontiac Trans Ams\, GTOs\, Chevrolet Camaros\, Shelby Cobras\, Plymouth Roadrunners\, and Cudas. Other marques will include a good number of new and old Ferraris\, Mercedes\, and Cadillacs – just to name a few. (View All Cars) \nLooking over all of the vehicles for sale on the Mecum website\, it’s evident that this auction will be filled with millions of dollars worth of classic muscle cars from the 1960s and 1970s. \n\nThis year\, Mecum will feature over 14 individual car collections for sale at the Indianapolis Auction. \nThe Indy Auction car collections include the following: \n\nThe Clyde Horst Collection\nThe Chris Bishop Collection\nGary & Pam Beineke ’71 Wing Cars Collection\nThe Serial #35 Corvette Collection\nFrom the Keith Busse Collection\nBen and Karen’s Fabulous Fox Body Collection\nThe Billy Schriock Collection\nThe Shilling Collection\nThe Dallas and Ammie Hawkins Collection at No Reserve\nThe Danny Gattis Collection\nThe Mark Galos Maine Collection\nThe Meticulous Mustangs & More Collection\n(SEE ALL CAR COLLECTIONS HERE)\n\nMecum staff will be following all state and federal guidelines regarding COVID-19. SUMMARY:Mecum To Host The World’s Largest Road Art® Auction Ever Held At The Mecum Headquarters In Walworth\, WI (June 20-25\, 2023)
DESCRIPTION:Mecum will host a Mega Automobilia Auction called the “World’s Largest Road Art®” Auction from the Mecum Headquarters in Walworth\, WI (June 20–25\, 2023). \nThis auction will be a rare opportunity to not only visit the World-Famous Mecum Headquarters but also scoop up some of the world’s greatest one-of-a-kind and hard-to-find automobilia to ever hit the market. \nThis auction will include over 3\,000 carefully curated car-themed collectibles that will light up any car collector’s car condo\, car garage\, basement\, or home. \nDominating the event will be one of the largest selections of unique\, vintage\, antique\, and rare auto-related signs. The selection includes hundreds of large and small nostalgic neon signs including hand-crafted porcelain signs\, vintage tin signs\, roadside car dealership signs\, antique wooden signs\, one-off signs\, famous diners – and more. \nThe signs are from such well-known brands as Coca-Cola\, Pepsi\, Ford\, Pontiac\, Buick\, Firestone\, Greyhound\, Rexall Drugs\, and even Big Boy – just to name a few. One favorite is a neon “Star Lanes” bowling alley sign. \nOther car-themed collectibles include vintage gas pumps\, antique kids’ pedal cars\, classic car posters\, antique oil cans\,  branded clocks\, gas pump globes\, and wall art of all kinds. \nHere is a 1940s double-sided tin neon sign in its original cabinet\, shining with a great patina. The sign prominently features the famous Rocco and Cheater’s Speed Shop from Birmingham\, Alabama \n  \nFEATURED COLLECTIBLES \nA particular favorite that will cross the auction block is an original\, one-of-one 1940s Rocco and Cheater’s Speed Shop Double-Sided Tin Neon Sign (Lot F341). The sign is historic as it advertised a famous hangout for racing enthusiasts’ hotspot called Rocco’s Speed Shop in Birmingham\, Alabama\, which opened in 1944. The giant  Roco arrow-shaped two-colored neon sign measures nearly 10 feet tall and 4 feet wide. \nThis is an iconic American 1950s porcelain Used Car Neon Sign featuring a 1950s Cadillac smashing into a wall. The historic sign is bright and colorful and was prominently placed in the Motor City (Detroit)\, on the sidewalk right off of I-75 and 8 Mile Road. \nAnother historical and one-of-a-kind 1950s roadside sign up for sale is a gargantuan One-Sided animated Crash Shop Neon Sign labeled “Sam’s Auto Parts. The animated sign features a 1950s Cadillac crashing into a brick wall\, resulting in a wrecked front end\, and a flat tire\, while the neon headlights are blinking. The sign is one-of-a-kind\, stands about 11 feet tall\, and was an icon in Detroit for many years. \nEqually historical is a single-sided\, two-color giant neon porcelain car dealership advertising “Wolf Chevrolet\,” (SELLING LOT F157)  in Belvidere\, Illinois. It sports the humongous Chevrolet logo outline with blue neon lights and is one of the largest “Chevrolet” signs ever produced\, measuring 29 feet by 9 feet. This iconic sign is a must for any Chevrolet car collector. \nThis is one of the largest One-Sided Porcelain Neon Signs ever produced. It measures 28’x9′ and was proudly displayed\, boasting the Wolf Chevrolet Car Dealership in Belvidere\, Illinois. \nA large portion of the auto-related memorabilia up for auction will come from the “Jeff Spanier Gas and Oil Collection“. \nThe Spanier collection includes over 200 high-quality branded globes (the lighted globes mounted on top of vintage gas pumps) and over 400 authentic vintage gas and oil cans. One of the main attractions of this collection is an exceptional\, hyper-bright one-piece Texaco Fire-Chief Hat Gas Pump Globe (Lot F189 for bidders). The Globe stands almost one foot tall and is the only one known to exist. \nOn the left is a Texaco Fire-Chief Hat Gas Pump Globe where only one is known to exist in the collector’s world. On the right is a highly sought-after pyramid-shaped 1920s Marathon Motor Oil 1-Gallon Oil Can resembling an old Oil Derrick (pumping station). \nAlso from the Jeff Spanier collection is a rare shaped Marathon Motor Oil 1-Gallon Oil Can (Lot F22 if you plan to bid). The oil can reads “Marathon Oil Company” and is uniquely shaped in a pyramid shape that reflects the shape of an oil field pumping station of the past. \n\nFROM The “King of Cool\,” STEVE MCQUEEN\nBut one of the most anticipated items\, which is a class by itself\, comes from the “King of Cool\,” Steve McQueen. This lot includes an original set of Baruffaldi Racing Italian Glasses (Lot S162 for bidders) that McQueen used while racing under his alias racing name\, “Harvey Cushman”. \nThese 1960s-1970s Steve McQueen Baruffaldi Sunglasses were actually owned by “The King of Cool” himself. The multicolor\, three-lens set of glasses includes a signed authenticity certificate from Barbara McQueen. \nThese glasses were actually worn on a regular basis by the King-of-Cool while racing motorcycles\, sports cars\, and even planes. The set includes a carrying case\, three multi-collared lenses\, and most importantly\, a certificate of authenticity signed by McQueen’s wife\, Barbara McQueen. \nAll in all\, there will be thousands of hard-to-find and one-of-a-kind rare car-themed auto-related memorabilia items for sale at the Mecum Road Art Auction. \nThere are way too many to list in this article. SUMMARY:The London to Brighton Veteran Car Run (Pre-1905) Antique Car Tour Starts November 5\, 2023
DESCRIPTION:The London to Brighton Veteran Car Run is the world’s longest-running motor car event\, celebrating the dawn of the automobile era and the four-mile an-hour speed limit. \nOn Sunday\, November 5\, 2023\, hundreds of pre-1905 cars will participate in this historic event\, marking the emancipation of the motor car from the 1896 speed limit of 4 mph (6.4 km/h). \nDrivers and antique cars from around the world will embark on a 60-mile journey from Hyde Park in London to Madeira Drive in Brighton\, relishing the picturesque landscape and camaraderie of fellow aficionados. Every participating car\, representing some of the most iconic brands ever crafted\, must have been manufactured prior to 1905. \nThe London to Brighton Veteran Car Run commemorates the UK’s 1905 speed limit of 4 mph\, featuring cars built before 1905 on a 60-mile journey \nAmong this year’s participants are a 1900 De Dion Bouton driven by Robert Goodwill\, another 1900 De Dion Bouton owned by Dr. Shaun Crofton\, a 1900 Daimler steered by John Worth\, a 1900 De Dion Bouton with Jörn Scharlemann navigating\, and a 1900 Darracq piloted by Tim Summers. \n\nDo they break down\, and how many actually finish the race?\nWell\, here are the results of last year’s 2022 London to Brighton Veteran Car Run: \n\nCars Entered 364\nWithdrawn 12\nDid Not Start 22\nRetired 56\nCars Finished Race 274\n\nIn this year’s veteran run\, the 1892 Peugeot Type 3 Vis-à-vis stands out as the oldest car. A prized artifact from Italy’s Museo Nazionale dell’Automobile di Torino collection\, it holds the distinction of being the first car ever driven on Italian roads.\nThis year’s special RM Sotheby’s Veteran Car Run promises to attract and entertain more than 400 entries from all over the world. \n\nThe participants departed from Hyde Park in London at 7:03 am and arrived at Madeira Drive in Brighton\, a distance of about 60 miles (97 km)\, between 10:00 am and 4:30 pm. \nThe event is sponsored by RM Sotheby’s Auctions which is a dominant force in auctioning classic collectible cars. \nThe London to Brighton Veteran Car Run is a historic event that specifically celebrates the early days of motoring. The celebration goal is to showcase the ingenuity and craftsmanship of the early pioneers\, craftsmen\, and inventors of the automobile industry. \nAs always\, the car run features cars from countries around the world\, provided they had produced a car prior to 1905. Some of the dominant countries developing cars at the time were the United States\, United Kingdom\, France\, Germany\, Italy\, Canada\, Australia\, and Japan. The oldest car on the run was an 1892 Peugeot Type 3. \nTwo pre-1905 vehicles from the Veteran Car Run\, an event that’s been held since 1927\, journeying 60 miles from Hyde Park via London’s historic A23 road to Brighton. \nThe event attracts thousands of spectators along the route\, who cheer and wave at the drivers and passengers of the vintage vehicles. Some of the participants dress up in period correct costumes that match the cars and era of their cars which adds to the festive atmosphere. \nThe event is not a race\, but a leisurely drive of car collectors that allows the car lovers to enjoy the scenery and the company of like-minded enthusiasts.\nThe run is widely known and respected for its donations to various charities. Some of the charities that benefit from the event are the Royal British Legion and the Movember Foundation. \nThe London to Brighton Veteran Car Run is traditionally held every year on the first Sunday of November in the UK. The car run starts at Hyde Park in London and ends at Madeira Drive in Brighton. \n \n\nHISTORY OF THE VETERAN CAR RUN \nThe London to Brighton Veteran Car Run originated in 1896 to celebrate a London law that increased the motor car speed limit from 4 mph to 14 mph.  Initially termed “The Emancipation Run\,” it symbolized the motor car’s newfound freedom from stringent regulations. The Veteran Car Run changed destinations until 1903\, causing the event to lose popularity until it was rejuvenated and widely advertised in 1927 by two newspapers. The Veteran Car Run is now one of the most popular events in the world for classic car collectors. \nToday\, the Veteran Car Run is originally organized by Harry John Lawson\, founder of the UK’s first motoring club: The Royal Automobile Club \nSince then\, it has taken place yearly\, barring the war years and 1947. \n.
