This car\, one of only two built by Locomobile for their racing program in the early 20th century\, has an incredible history. \nIt competed in both the 1906 and 1908 Vanderbilt Cup races\, placing third in 1908 under the guidance of driver Jim Florida. Its sister car\, famously known as “Old 16\,” was driven by George Robertson and made history as the first American car to win an international competition. \n“This Locomobile may be the most historically significant race car entry we have ever had\,” said Luke L. The event will feature cars that have completed the Cannonball Run Race and an opportunity to hear historical stories from legendary drivers. \nCannonball Run Day takes place at the Old Westbury Gardens Estate on Saturday\, September 28th\, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. \nThe event includes talks and conversations with coast-to-coast legends Pam Yates and Brock Yates Jr. There will also be antique and vintage cars\, special events\, food and drink\, and car collectors from around the country. \nFor those unfamiliar with a Cannonball Run Race\, it is an unsanctioned race across the United States from New York to Los Angeles\, California. The race covers over 2\,900 miles and usually involves two drivers and a spotter. The coast-to-coast race’s current record took 25 hours\, 39 minutes\, with an average speed of 110 mph – and no tickets.
