SUMMARY:The London to Brighton Veteran Car Run (Pre-1905) Antique Car Tour Starts November 5\, 2023
DESCRIPTION:The London to Brighton Veteran Car Run is the world’s longest-running motor car event\, celebrating the dawn of the automobile era and the four-mile an-hour speed limit. \nOn Sunday\, November 5\, 2023\, hundreds of pre-1905 cars will participate in this historic event\, marking the emancipation of the motor car from the 1896 speed limit of 4 mph (6.4 km/h). \nDrivers and antique cars from around the world will embark on a 60-mile journey from Hyde Park in London to Madeira Drive in Brighton\, relishing the picturesque landscape and camaraderie of fellow aficionados. Every participating car\, representing some of the most iconic brands ever crafted\, must have been manufactured prior to 1905. \nThe London to Brighton Veteran Car Run commemorates the UK’s 1905 speed limit of 4 mph\, featuring cars built before 1905 on a 60-mile journey \nAmong this year’s participants are a 1900 De Dion Bouton driven by Robert Goodwill\, another 1900 De Dion Bouton owned by Dr. Shaun Crofton\, a 1900 Daimler steered by John Worth\, a 1900 De Dion Bouton with Jörn Scharlemann navigating\, and a 1900 Darracq piloted by Tim Summers. \n\nDo they break down\, and how many actually finish the race?\nWell\, here are the results of last year’s 2022 London to Brighton Veteran Car Run: \n\nCars Entered 364\nWithdrawn 12\nDid Not Start 22\nRetired 56\nCars Finished Race 274\n\nIn this year’s veteran run\, the 1892 Peugeot Type 3 Vis-à-vis stands out as the oldest car. A prized artifact from Italy’s Museo Nazionale dell’Automobile di Torino collection\, it holds the distinction of being the first car ever driven on Italian roads.\nThis year’s special RM Sotheby’s Veteran Car Run promises to attract and entertain more than 400 entries from all over the world. \n\nThe participants departed from Hyde Park in London at 7:03 am and arrived at Madeira Drive in Brighton\, a distance of about 60 miles (97 km)\, between 10:00 am and 4:30 pm. \nThe event is sponsored by RM Sotheby’s Auctions which is a dominant force in auctioning classic collectible cars. \nThe London to Brighton Veteran Car Run is a historic event that specifically celebrates the early days of motoring. The celebration goal is to showcase the ingenuity and craftsmanship of the early pioneers\, craftsmen\, and inventors of the automobile industry. \nAs always\, the car run features cars from countries around the world\, provided they had produced a car prior to 1905. Some of the dominant countries developing cars at the time were the United States\, United Kingdom\, France\, Germany\, Italy\, Canada\, Australia\, and Japan. The oldest car on the run was an 1892 Peugeot Type 3. \nTwo pre-1905 vehicles from the Veteran Car Run\, an event that’s been held since 1927\, journeying 60 miles from Hyde Park via London’s historic A23 road to Brighton. \nThe event attracts thousands of spectators along the route\, who cheer and wave at the drivers and passengers of the vintage vehicles. Some of the participants dress up in period correct costumes that match the cars and era of their cars which adds to the festive atmosphere. \nThe event is not a race\, but a leisurely drive of car collectors that allows the car lovers to enjoy the scenery and the company of like-minded enthusiasts.\nThe run is widely known and respected for its donations to various charities. Some of the charities that benefit from the event are the Royal British Legion and the Movember Foundation. \nThe London to Brighton Veteran Car Run is traditionally held every year on the first Sunday of November in the UK. The car run starts at Hyde Park in London and ends at Madeira Drive in Brighton. \n \n\nHISTORY OF THE VETERAN CAR RUN \nThe London to Brighton Veteran Car Run originated in 1896 to celebrate a London law that increased the motor car speed limit from 4 mph to 14 mph.  Initially termed “The Emancipation Run\,” it symbolized the motor car’s newfound freedom from stringent regulations. The Veteran Car Run changed destinations until 1903\, causing the event to lose popularity until it was rejuvenated and widely advertised in 1927 by two newspapers. The Veteran Car Run is now one of the most popular events in the world for classic car collectors. \nToday\, the Veteran Car Run is originally organized by Harry John Lawson\, founder of the UK’s first motoring club: The Royal Automobile Club \nSince then\, it has taken place yearly\, barring the war years and 1947. \n. DESCRIPTION:The Ferrari Cavallino Classic Middle East (Abu Dhabi) will open November 24-26\, 2023\, and once again celebrate the legacy and rich heritage of Ferrari automobiles. \nDrawing in hundreds of car aficionados and car collectors\, Cavallino Classic Abu Dhabi is a tribute to the enduring legacy of Enzo Ferrari. The event is strategically timed to coincide with the Abu Dhabi Formula 1 Grand Prix occurring within the same week. \nThe last day of the Classic will feature ey popping collector car-themed activities at the picturesque Yas Links Golf Course in conjunction with the Formula 1 Grand Prix. All Cavallino Classic events will take place from November 24 to 26 at a VIP space called “Casa Ferrari” from 1 p.m. to 11 p.m. The event promises to blend Ferrari’s history\, culture\, heritage\, and Grand Prix racing motorsport festivities. \nThe 2023 Cavallino Classic Middle East will feature over fifty of the most iconic Ferraris in Abu Dhabi on the rolling\, picturesque greens of the Yas Links Golf Course for three days. \nThis year\, Concorso d’Eleganza is one of the world’s greatest celebrations and carries the tradition of Italian culture combined with the elegance and glamour of the United Arab Emirates. \nThe mission of the Cavallino Classic Abu Dhabi is to celebrate the history of the Ferrari brand and award the most beautiful vintage Ferraris in the Middle East. The event is a concentrated three-day celebration of design\, history\, culture\, and passion for Ferrari in one of the most beautiful locations in the Middle East. \nLast year’s Concorso d’Eleganza Abu Dhabi saw 28 high-end Ferraris on display\, divided into six classes. A further 13 hyper-rare Ferraris were showcased but did not participate in the competition. Two Concorso awards were presented\, one for the best Ferrari Gran Turismo car and the other for the best in the Competition category. \nOpening on the Arabian Gulf\, Yas Links in the heart of Abu Dhabi is the first true links golf course in the Middle East and the new home to the Ferrari Cavallino Classic Middle East as well as the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship – a Rolex Series event on the DP World Tour. \nAWARDS \nFrom the 2022 Concorso competition\, “The Gran Turismo Ferrari Cup” went to the 1962 Ferrari 250 GT/L owned by Giacomo Mattioli of Italy. The 1962 Ferrari was originally produced for the German market and carries serial number 5477. Moreover\, this rare thoroughbred is one of only 351 produced in total. \nThe second car to win an award for “The Competition Ferrari Cup” went to a 1951 Ferrari 340 America. The car is owned by former Formula 1 race car driver Kevin Cogan from the United States of America. The car is stamped with the number 004/0116 and sports a Barchetta body built by Carrozzeria Touring. \nAdditional awards were presented to the following: \n\nA 2007 Ferrari 612 Scaglietti owned by Rajai Kayal of Hong Kong won “The Ferrari Elegance Award.”\nA 2011 Ferrari SA Aperta owned by Rajai Kayal from Hong Kong won the “Coppa Dodici Cilindri” Award.\nA 2009 Ferrari 430 Scuderia owned by a private collector won the “Coppa Otto Cilindri” Award.\nLastly\, a 2004 575 M Maranello owned by Zaher Samman won the Ferrari Judges’ Award.\nSee All Awards\n\nAmong the awards\, the star of the show was a 1947 Ferrari 125 S. The 125 is best known as the first Ferrari ever built by Enzo Ferrari back in 1947 in Modena\, Italy. \nEnzo Ferrari and the iconic Ferrari marque started with an innovative 1947 Ferrari 125 C/125 S race car built with a V-12 engine that displaced just 1.5 liters. \nOnly two 125S cars were ever produced and only one is known to exist. It was equipped with a 1.5-liter engine and was designed by both Enzo Ferrari and Gioacchino Colombo. The 125 S was quickly followed up by the Ferrari 159 S (1947). Top Car.com estimates that if a 125 S comes on the market\, it would sell for well over ten million dollars. \nAfter a maiden race failure\, on May 20 1947\, race car driver Franco Cortese drove the Ferrari 125 S to victory in the Rome Grand Prix with a top speed of 135mph. Enzo Ferrari later dubbed the maiden race “a promising failure” \nJoin Cavallino Classic in the United Arab Emirates on the Yas Links\, where Cavallino shares the Arabesque Architecture of this beautiful venue with “Casa Ferrari”. \nHosted by Canossa Events at Casa Ferrari\, the Cavallino Classic Middle East marked the conclusion of the 2022 Cavallino Classic series. Situated a short distance from the circuit\, this event followed earlier iterations in January (Cavallino Concours Palm Beach\, Florida)\, May (Cavallino Concours Modena\, Italy)\, and a special edition on Fisher Island\, Florida. \nJoin the Cavallino Classic in the United Arab Emirates on November 24-26\, 2023\, as it gathers and awards the most beautiful vintage Ferraris in the Middle East. At this event\, you will experience an amazing three-day journey through Italian beauty\, history\, culture\, and passion from the legacy that Enzo Ferrari left for us all to enjoy. \nAbu Dhabi\, the capital of the United Arab Emirates\, sits off the mainland on an island in the Persian (Arabian) Gulf. \nABOUT ABI DHABI \nAbu Dhabi\, a place where modernity meets tradition\, offers a perfect stage for the Ferrari Cavallino Classic Middle East event. The symbol was adopted by Enzo Ferrari for his racing team after being encouraged to do so by the mother of Count Francesco Baracca\, Italy’s top fighter ace in WWI. The coat of arms of Baracca family included a black prancing stallion\, which Francesco wore as his emblem on the two sides of his aircraft. \nCavallino\, Inc. was founded in 1978 and quickly became the publisher of the most important\, reputable and interesting magazine about Ferrari history. \nIn 1992 Cavallino started The Classic\, the Concorso d’Eleganza entirely dedicated to the prancing horse. \nWe can certainly say: “that over five decades Cavallino has grown and protected Enzo Ferrari’s legacy by preserving its authenticity and originality.” \nIn 2020\, Canossa\, the Italian company leader in automotive events\, acquired Cavallino with the aim of bringing it into the future while preserving its fundamental assets and its tradition of excellence. John Barnes is still part of the team and has been appointed President Emeritus of Cavallino. \nContact Cavallino\, Inc.\nPO Box 1000 Palm Beach\, FL 33480 USA \nInfo US:\nPhone: +1 (561) 994-1345\nE-mail: customercare@cavallino.com\nInfo Europe and Middle East:\nPhone: +39 0522 421096\nE-mail: customercare@cavallino.com \nhttps://www.cavallino.com/pages/middle-east
